One Less Gun: BPD Officers Arrest Five, Recover Four Guns in Three Separate Incidents Overnight

INCIDENT #1: At about 12:38 AM on Saturday, August 29, 2015, officers assigned to the City Wide Drug Control Unit made an onsite firearm arrest in the area of 19 Ingleside Street in District B-2 (Roxbury). The officers had received information that the suspect, later identified as Eddie Mejia, 24, of Dorchester, was in possession of a firearm and was concealing it inside a small red bag he was carrying.  As officers approached the suspect, they watched him drop the bag into a trash barrel. Officers recovered the bag and discovered a loaded Highpoint .40 caliber handgun inside of it. The suspect was placed into custody without incident and will appear in Roxbury District Court on charges of Unlawful Possession of a Firearm, Unlawful Possession Ammunition, Carrying a Loaded Firearm on a Public Way and Possession of a Firearm with Altered Serial Number.

INCIDENT #2 - GUN#1

INCIDENT #2: At about 3:00 AM on Saturday, August 29, 2015, officers assigned to the Youth Violence Strike Force arrested three and recovered two firearms after making a traffic stop on Terrace Street in District B-2 (Roxbury). Officers stopped a car after observing a traffic infraction and were approaching to speak with the occupants when the back seat passenger suddenly fled. Officers gave chase after the suspect, later identified as Terrance Sumler, 26, of Dorchester, and placed him into custody after a violent struggle. Other officers who had remained with the motor vehicle observed a silver handgun on the back seat of the car which was later revealed to be a loaded Ruger Security .357 Magnum handgun. Officers removed the driver, later identified as Jamall Jones, 25, of Dorchester, and placed him into custody without incident. As the officers placed the driver in custody, the front seat passenger, later identified as Stephen Samuels, 22, of Roxbury, jumped out of the car and ran. Officers called for additional units and officers assigned to District D-4 (South End) quickly arrived in the area.  Officers were able to locate the suspect hiding in a fenced in area behind a dumpster and took him into custody after a brief struggle. One officer sustained an injury during the arrest and was transported to a local hospital for medical attention. Officers later recovered a loaded Lorin Model 9mm handgun from inside the glove compartment of the vehicle. All three suspects will appear in Roxbury District Court on charges of Unlawful Possession of a Firearm and Unlawful Possession of Ammunition. Jamall Jones will also be charged with Operating a Motor Vehicle After Revocation or Suspension.

INCIDENT#2 - GUN #2

INCIDENT #3:  At about 4:14 AM on Saturday, August 29, 2015, officers assigned to District B-3 (Mattapan) made an on site firearm arrest in the area of 70 Ames Street in District C-11 (Dorchester).  The officers were in the area in response to a call for shots fired when they were flagged down by a witness who stated that a female suspect, later identified as Ayanna Smith, 40, of Roslindale, was walking down the street armed with a firearm.  Officers located the suspect and observed her toss a black metal object under a parked car as they approached.  Officers recovered the object which was determined to be a loaded Walther P22 handgun.  The suspect was placed into custody without incident and will appear in Dorchester District Court on charges of Unlawful Possession of a Firearm, Unlawful Possession of Ammunition and Carrying a Loaded Firearm on a Public Way.
