One Less Gun: Officers Recover Firearm and Make Arrest After Suspects Flee Traffic Stop Then Crash

At about 12:40 AM today, Monday September 14, 2015, officers assigned to District B-3 (Mattapan) made an onsite firearm arrest in the area of 18 Alban Street.  The incident began in the area of Talbot Avenue and Norfolk Street when the officers observed a motor vehicle driving down Talbot Avenue with the headlights turned off and without a valid inspection sticker.  Officers pulled the car over without incident and were speaking to the operator and the passenger when the car suddenly accelerated away from them at a high rate of speed.  Officers located the vehicle a short time later, crashed and unoccupied, on Talbot Avenue near Dorchester Avenue.  Officers were able to quickly locate the passenger, later identified as Wooby Louis, 18, of Mattapan, and place him in custody after a brief foot pursuit which ended in a violent struggle.  With the assistance of a Boston Police K-9, officers were able to locate and recover a loaded Raven Arms .25 caliber handgun which the suspect had discarded.  Despite a thorough search of the area, officers were unable to locate the operator of the vehicle who was described as a light skinned black or Hispanic male with a beard, wearing a grey tank top.  The passenger claimed to have no knowledge as to the identity of the operator.

The suspect will appear in Dorchester District Court on charges of Unlawful Possession of a Firearm, Unlawful Possession of Ammunition, Carrying a Loaded Firearm on a Public Way, Trespassing and Resisting Arrest.
