One Less Gun: Suspect Breaks Storefront Window - Ends Up Arrested in Possession of an Illegal Firearm

At about 1:50 PM on Sunday September 20, 2015, officers assigned to District B-3 (Mattapan) responded to a radio call for vandalism in progress at the Alberto Market located at 1112 Blue Hill Avenue.  Officers learned that the suspect, later identified as Jeffrey Venter, 26, of Mattapan, had broken the front window of the store and quickly located him nearby in the area of 8 Wilcock Street.  The suspect was seated on the stairs of the building with his hands resting on an open backpack which was placed in between his legs.  As officers approached to speak with the suspect, they observed what appeared to be the handle of a firearm sticking out of the backpack.  Officers were able to secure the bag and recover what was revealed to be a loaded firearm.

The suspect was placed in custody without incident and will appear in Dorchester District Court on charges of Unlawful Possession of a Firearm, Unlawful Possession of Ammunition, Carrying a Loaded Firearm and Destruction of Personal Property.
