UPDATE: BPD Investigators Arrest Suspect Wanted in Connection to New Year’s Day Sexual Assault in the area of Columbia Road and Annabel Street in Dorchester

 

Today, Friday, January 15, 2016, members of the BPD’s Sexual Assault Unit and Fugitive Apprehension Unit arrested an individual wanted in connection to a sexual assault which took place on January 1, 2016.  Today, detectives arrested Ovidio Pereira, 22, of Boston and charged him with Aggravated Rape, Kidnapping and Assault by Means of a Dangerous Weapon. 

Approximately two weeks ago, at about 6:45 am, on Friday, January 1, 2016, officers from District C-11 (Dorchester) responded to a call for a female down, possibly unconscious, in the area of 653 Columbia Road. On arrival, officers spoke to the female victim who stated that she had been sexually assaulted by an individual (described as a dark-skinned black male, possibly Cape-Verdean) who approached her from behind, stated he had a weapon and then assaulted her. In the days after the incident, detectives from the Sexual Assault Unit, working closely with technicians assigned to the Boston Police Crime Lab, were able to identify the suspect with the help of DNA evidence.
