One Less Gun: Officers Recover Loaded Firearm Being Carried by Suspect in an Unusual Manner

At about 10:35 AM on Tuesday, January 19, 2016, officers assigned to the Youth Violence Strike Force made an onsite firearm arrest in the area of 14 Quincy Street in District C-11 (Dorchester). Officers were on patrol when they observed and approached three known individuals. As officers were speaking to the men about recent gang violence in the area, they observed that one of them, Keyron Baskin-Whitfield, 19, of Dorchester, appeared to be nervous and looked as though he was attempting to conceal something under his sweatshirt.  Officers performed a pat frisk and recovered a loaded Ruger Model P89 9mm handgun that was underneath the suspect's sweatshirt, tied to a lanyard that was hanging around his neck.  The suspect was then placed in custody without incident. The suspect will appear in Roxbury District Court on charges of Unlawful Possession of a Firearm, Unlawful Possession of Ammunition, Carrying a Loaded Firearm, Possession of a Large Capacity Feeding Device and Possession of a Firearm with an Obliterated Serial Number.
