One Less Gun: BPD Officers Place Two in Custody After Recovering Loaded Firearm During Traffic Stop in Dorchester

At about 6:34 PM on Friday October 14, 2016, officers assigned to the Youth Violence Strike Force arrested two suspects on firearm related offenses, warrants and motor vehicle law violations after a traffic stop in the area of Fermoy Heights Avenue and Franklin Hill Avenue in Dorchester.  Officers were on patrol when they stopped a motor vehicle for a traffic infraction and approached to speak to the occupants.  As they were walking towards the car, they could see the operator and the rear seat passenger were both moving around in a suspicious manner while simultaneously reaching under the driver’s seat.  Officers removed the operator, Kevin Sutton, 30, of Dorchester, and placed him in custody without incident when it was revealed he was wanted on two outstanding warrants for Violation of the Auto Laws, did not possess a valid driver’s license and was using the car without authority.   A pat frisk of the vehicle led to the recovery of a loaded .22 caliber Rugar SR22 pink and black colored handgun from underneath the driver’s seat.  The passenger, Derek Ottley, 25, of Boston, was then also placed in custody without incident.  Both suspect will be arraigned in Dorchester District Court on charges of Unlawful Possession of a Firearm, Unlawful Possession of Ammunition and Carrying a Loaded Firearm.  In addition to his two prior warrants for Violation of the Auto Laws, Kevin Sutton will also be charged with Operating a Motor Vehicle After Revocation or Suspension and Using Without Authority.
