Great Work Recognized: Detectives Awarded Commendations for Their Response to Shots Fired in Close Range in South Boston

Earlier today, on Thursday October 6, 2016, Detective Robert Flynn and Detective Steven Morgan were awarded a Commissioner’s Commendation for their actions during the arrest of an armed suspect in South Boston.

At about 5:30 PM on Tuesday, July 12, 2016, the detectives were on patrol in the area of Logan Way and Gavin Way in response to several recent firearm related calls in the area.  As they were walking, they heard what appeared to be a gunshot and then immediately observed a male with a gun in his hand, pointing a firearm across the street.  The male then began running toward the detectives while attempting to conceal the firearm in his waistband.  The officers drew their department issued firearms and gave the 18 year old male suspect lawful commands to drop the weapon and put his hands up.  After taking several more steps towards the detectives, the male finally stopped and placed the firearm on the hood of a vehicle and complied with officers’ orders.  The suspect was then placed in custody without further incident and a loaded Bersa SA .22 caliber firearm was safely recovered.

For their immediate response when faced with an armed criminal firing a weapon in close proximity, and their outstanding professionalism and restraint when placing him in custody, Detectives Morgan and Flynn are each hereby awarded a Commissioner’s Commendation.
