Daily Dose of Great Police Work: Quick Response Leads to Arrest of Bank Robber in South Boston


At about 10:15 AM on Saturday November 12, 2016, officers assigned to District C-6 (South Boston) responded to a call for a robbery at the East Boston Savings Bank located at 501 Southampton Street.  During the incident, a suspect entered the bank, demanded money from a teller then fled on foot with an undisclosed amount of cash.  Officers canvassed the area and quickly located, Edward Hughes, 36, of Boston, who matched the given description in the area of Southampton and Atkinson Streets.  When the officers approached and asked him where he was coming from, he responded “The bank, they just gave me a bunch of money.”  The officers then detained the suspect until he could be positively identified at which time he was placed in custody without incident.  The suspect will be charged with Unarmed Bank Robbery in South Boston District Court.
