One Less Gun: Officers Recover Loaded Firearm from Juvenile Suspect After Call for Shots Fired in Jamaica Plain

At about 12:10 AM on Saturday November 19, 2016, officers assigned to the Youth Violence Strike Force made an onsite firearm arrest after responding to a call for shots fired in the area of Parker and Heath Streets in Jamaica Plain.  While canvassing the area for possible victims or suspects, the officers observed a 15 year old juvenile male from Jamaica Plain who was known to them walking at a brisk pace on the center island at the intersection and approached to speak with him.  When the officers stopped to ask the young man if he had heard any shots fired in the area, he appeared nervous and quickly looked over both of his shoulders while taking a deep breath.  When the officers again asked him if he had heard anything, he raised both of his hands up and pointed towards the top of Parker Street.  As he raised his arms, one of the officers could clearly see the handle of a firearm tucked into the waistband of his pants at which time he was immediately taken to the ground and placed in custody.  Officers then safely recovered a loaded 9mm Hi-Point model C-9 handgun from the suspect.  The suspect will appear in Boston Juvenile Court on charges of Delinquent to Wit:  Unlawful Possession of a Firearm, Unlawful Possession of Ammunition and Carrying a Loaded Firearm.
