At about 6:30 PM on Wednesday November 23, 2016, officers assigned to District B-2 (Roxbury) recovered two loaded firearms and arrested four suspects after making a traffic stop in the area of Dudley and Hampden Streets. Officers had stopped an improperly registered motor vehicle when they learned that the driver, Devon Peters, 25, of Haverhill, was operating with a suspended license and that the front seat passenger, Devaughn Johnson, 21, of Haverhill, was wanted on an outstanding warrant out of Haverhill District Court for Unlawful Possession of a Firearm and Assault & Battery with a Dangerous Weapon. Officers removed the driver and placed him in custody without incident. When the officers removed Johnson to place him under arrest for his warrant, he informed the officers he was in possession of a firearm which they quickly recovered from his jacket pocket. The firearm was later determined to be a loaded .40 caliber Sig Sauer model 232 SC handgun. Officers then removed the two rear passengers, Elijah Declet, 19, of Haverhill and a 17 year old juvenile male from Haverhill to conduct a pat frisk of the vehicle which led to the recovery of a loaded .22 caliber Ruger 10/22 Carbine rifle with the stock and barrel sawed off and a large capacity magazine. Officers also located over twenty bags of marijuana packaged for sale (total weight of 9.11 ounces), $277 in cash and a large knife with a twelve inch blade. The two rear passengers were then placed in custody without incident.
All of the suspects will appear in Roxbury District Court. Devon Peters will be charged with Unlawful Possession of a Firearm, Unlawful Possession of Ammunition, Unlawful Carrying of a Large Capacity Firearm, Possession with Intent to Distribute Class D Drugs and Operating a Motor Vehicle After Revocation or Suspension.
