ANOTHER GUN: Speeding Vehicle Leads to Two Arrests and the Recovery of an Illegal Firearm in Roxbury

ANOTHER GUN: Speeding Vehicle Leads to Two Arrests and the Recovery of an Illegal Firearm in Roxbury: At about 1:42am, on Sunday, November 27, 2016, officers from District B-2 (Roxbury) were responding to a call for shots fired in the area of Callender Street when officers observed a gray motor vehicle operating at a high rate of speed in the area of Blue Hill Ave and Columbia Road. As the vehicle approached American Legion Hwy, still travelling at a high rate of speed, officers observed the vehicle almost collide with another vehicle swerving at the last second to avoid contact as the other car completed a legal and proper right turn onto American Legion Hwy. In light of the above, officers activated their emergency equipment (lights & sirens) in an effort to stop the car. However, instead of coming to an immediate stop, the car continued driving, albeit at a reduced speed, along American Legion Highway. While following behind the car, officers were able to observe four occupants. Moreover, officers noted that the occupants were moving around in such a way as if to suggest they were attempting to hide something in the vehicle’s center console. When the car finally came to a stop in the area of American Legion Hwy and Canterbury Street, officers promptly approached the car and asked the operator to produce his license and registration. When the suspect abruptly turned and began reaching for the center console, officers immediately ordered him to discontinue his search for his license and exit the car. Once outside the car, a pat frisk of the operator for the presence of weapons proved negative and showed the operator to be unarmed. However, while officers were frisking the operator, officers observed the passenger of the vehicle make a movement towards the center console. Seeing this, officers instructed the passenger to exit the car. While pat frisking the passenger for weapons, officers immediately felt a hard object in the suspect’s waist area which lead to the recovery of a black revolver (see photo) from the suspect’s person. The passenger, Edwin Dume, 25, of Boston, was arrested and charged with Unlawful Possession of Firearm, Unlawful Possession of Ammunition, Unlawful Possession of a Loaded Firearm.  Meantime, the operator of the vehicle, Gestanley Jean, 20, of Boston, was arrested and charged with Operating without a License. The other two occupants were not charged.
