ONE LESS GUN: BPD Officers Seize a Gun and Drugs While Arresting One in Dorchester: In the BPD’s ongoing efforts to reduce gun violence in the city of Boston, members of the Youth Violence Strike Force confiscated an illegal firearm in Dorchester. At about 11:35am, on Friday, November 4, 2016, members of the Youth Violence Strike Force received information relative to an individual illegally carrying a firearm in the area of Washington and Tremlett Streets in Dorchester. While surveilling the individual, officers observed the person (Tyshawn Sanders) enter a motor vehicle. While following behind the car, officers observed the vehicle take an illegal turn in the area of Claybourne and Bowdoin Streets failing to yield to oncoming traffic which almost caused an accident with cars travelling in the opposite direction. Upon seeing the near collision, officers stopped the car. While talking to the operator, officers observed the individual believed to be in possession of the firearm sitting in the backseat of the vehicle. When asked his name, the suspect lied about his identity. At this point, officers instructed the individual to exit the car. Once outside the vehicle, officers conducted a pat frisk of the suspect for the presence of any weapons.  Officers promptly discovered and recovered a firearm (see photo) from the suspect’s left front pocket. A further search of the suspect enabled officers to discover and confiscate several small plastic bags of crack cocaine. Officers arrested Tyshawn Sanders, 18, of Boston and charged him with the Unlawful Possession of a Firearm, Unlawful Possession of Ammunition and the Possession with Intent to Distribute a Class B Drugs (Crack Cocaine).
