BPD in the News: Boston Globe Highlights Homicide Unit Overhaul and Clearance Rate Increase

Thank you to Evan Allen and Jan Ransom of the Boston Globe for highlighting the increasing number of cases cleared by the BPD Homicide Unit over the past four years. In 2012, due to a study conducted from 2007 to 2011 by Anthony Braga and other researchers from Northeastern University, the unit received additional resources, training, and personnel in attempts to provide the detectives with the tools they needed to clear more cases. The new, bolstered Homicide Unit has responded with positive results, yielding a 10% increase in homicide clearance rates in 2012 to 2014 in comparison to the previous four years.
