One Less Gun: Officers Arrest Suspect in Shooting Incident, Recover Firearm Used in Crime

At about 3:08 PM on Friday, December 2, 2016, officers from District B-2 (Roxbury) responded to a radio call for a person shot in the area of 6 Kenilworth Street, Roxbury.

Upon arrival, officers observed what appeared to be a bullet hole in a shattered front door. Officers quickly secured the scene, canvassed the area for witnesses and evidence, and secured possible video surveillance footage. After gathering evidence and speaking with the victim who had suffered a non-life-threatening gunshot wound, officers were able to identify a suspect, 29-year-old Darell Burns of Roxbury.

Officers responded to Burns’ residence and placed him under arrest. Officers were also able to recover the pink and black SCCY CPX-1 firearm used in the crime. Burns was charged with Assault with Intent to Murder, Assault and Battery by means of a Dangerous Weapon (Gun), Firearm Discharged within 500 Ft. of a Dwelling, Unlawful Possession of a Firearm, and Unlawful Possession of Ammunition.
