Daily Dose of Great Police Work: Quick Response Enables BPD Officers to Run Down Sneaker-Stealing Suspect in Dorchester

At about 11:35am, on Wednesday, February 10, 2016, officers from District C-11 (Dorchester) responded to a call for an armed robbery in the area of 196 Sydney Street in Dorchester.

On arrival, officers spoke to the victim who stated he was on his way to sell a pair of sneakers (a pair of Nike Kevin Durant Basketball Sneakers) to a person he had met on-line. According to the victim, he and the suspect agreed to meet at the corner of Sydney and Carson Streets to complete the transaction. However, when the victim arrived on the scene, three males approached him and robbed him of the sneakers he was trying to sell, as well as $300.00 in US currency. The victim further states that one of the suspects displayed a firearm. Officers promptly broadcast a description of the suspects over the police radio and, in short time, were able to locate an individual who matched the description of one of the suspects. While officers were questioning the suspect about his potential connection to the incident, the victim was brought to the scene in an effort to positively identify the suspect. Upon seeing the suspect, the victim positively identified the suspect as one of the individuals who robbed him. Officers arrested and Jakhari Battle, 18, of Boston and charged him with Armed Robbery. The suspect was not in possession of a firearm. Additional arrests could be pending.
