Daily Dose of Great Police Work: Officers Catch Vandal Red (and Blue and Yellow) Handed

At about 11:10 AM on Friday, February 19, 2016, officers from District D-4 (South End) responded to a radio call for a vandalism in progress in the area of 214 Northampton Street.

Upon arrival, officers observed a male spray painting a brick wall across from the above address. Officers observed several additional cans of spray paint on the ground near the suspect’s feet. As the suspect turned and faced the officers, he was observed holding a can of spray paint in each hand and several colors of paint on his fingers. Officers instructed the suspect to place the cans on the ground, and he complied. Officers asked the suspect if he had any connection to the property he was painting, and he replied that he did not. When the officers informed the suspect that what he was doing was a criminal offense called “tagging,” the suspect responded that he was aware that it was a crime.

Officers placed 23-year-old Junior Chin of Dorchester under arrest and charged him with Causing Damage to Property with Graffiti/Tagging.
