One Less Gun: Suspect Arrested with Firearm after Threatening Law Enforcement

At about 3:20 PM on Monday, February 1, 2016, members of the City Wide Drug Control Unit conducted an arrest in the area of 24 Whitfield Street, in District B-3 (Mattapan).

On the above date, officers received knowledge that a particular individual known to them had made threats against law enforcement. Due to this information, officers began a surveillance-based investigation on the male, observing him several times at different locations throughout the day. At one point, officers observed the subject in the area of Elmhurst Street and Southern Avenue. The suspect appeared to be scanning his surroundings, looking up and down the street. The suspect then hurriedly entered a residence on Elmhurst Street and exited within minutes, again scanning the area. Officers then observed him walk up the stairs of a second residence on Southern Avenue, constantly making security checks with his hand to his waist area while scanning his surroundings. As officers climbed the stairs behind him to make a stop of the individual, the suspect pushed the officers and fled from the porch. Officers pursued the suspect on foot and observed the suspect throw a firearm from his waistband in the area of 24 Whitfield Street. Officers recovered a loaded .32 caliber Smith and Wesson revolver.

Officers were able to place the suspect, 18-year-old Irvin Woods of Dorchester, under arrest. Woods is charged with Unlawful Possession of a Firearm, Unlawful Possession of Ammunition, and Armed Career Criminal Level 2.
