At about 6:36 PM on Saturday February 27, 2016, officers assigned to District E-5 (West Roxbury) responded to a radio call for shots fired in the area of 39 Sherwood Street in Roslindale. Prior to the arrival of officers, an unidentified male suspect had been observed standing in the street firing a gun at another male who was then seen fleeing the area in a white car.  When officers arrived on scene, they located and recovered a .22 caliber firearm which had been discarded in the middle of the street.  Officers were unable to locate the male suspect who had been seen firing the weapon.  Responding officers located a motor vehicle matching the given description travelling on Canterbury Street and performed a traffic stop.  Officers removed the driver, Edward McElroy, 21, of Mattapan, and recovered a loaded Glock Model 27 .40 caliber handgun from the driver’s side door panel.  The suspect was placed in custody without incident and will appear in West Roxbury District Court on charges of Unlawful Possession of a Firearm and Unlawful Possession of Ammunition.
