One Less Gun: Officers Recover Illegal Firearm and Prevent Possible Shooting Incident

At about 5:00 PM on Friday, March 18, 2016, members of the District B-3 (Mattapan) Drug Control Unit made an on-site arrest for firearm related charges in the area of Harvard and Norwell Streets.

While conducting an unrelated investigation, officers observed a male known to them ducking down attempting to conceal himself in the rear of a large passenger transport van being operated by an unknown female. Officers were aware of a shooting incident that had occurred in the area the previous day involving rival gang members and, fearing acts of retaliation, officers maintained mobile surveillance of the suspicious vehicle and its occupants.

The officers observed the van circle several times in the area of Franklin Hill before officers decided to conduct a threshold inquiry of its occupants on Kingbird Street. As a result of the inquiry, officers recovered a loaded Bryco Arms 9mm pistol from the passenger.

Officers arrested 28-year-old Lecian Johnson from Dorchester and charged him with Unlawful Possession of a Firearm, Unlawful Possession of Ammunition, Unlawfully Carrying a Loaded Firearm, and Unlawful Possession of a Large Capacity Firearm/Feeding Device. The operator, 22-year-old Denasia Burton-McAfee of Jamaica Plain, will be summoned to court for same charges.
