ONE LESS GUN: Off-Duty BPD Officer Plays Pivotal Role in the Arrest of Three Suspects on Gun Related Charges: At about 3:36pm, on Thursday, April 14, 2016, officers from District C-11 (Dorchester) responded to a call for shots fired in the area of 11 Ashmont Street. While en route to the call, officers learned that three black males (one wearing a red hoody, one in a black hoody and the third wearing a white hoody) were seen running from the scene. Moreover, an off-duty Boston Police Officer reported seeing an individual fitting the description of one of the suspects run into a backyard in the area of Mellen Street. Aided by this information, officers entered the yard and promptly located three individuals fitting the description of the suspects. In the best interests of officer safety, all three suspects were placed in handcuffs. A search of the yard enabled officers to locate and take possession of dark colored firearm with a brown handle later determined to be a loaded .357 Standard Magnum. Officers arrested Steven Bellamy, 20, of Boston, a 17 year-old male from Boston and a 15 year-old male from Boston and charged all three with the Unlawful Possession of a Firearm, Unlawful Possession of Ammunition and Unlawful Possession of a Loaded Firearm.
