One Less Gun: Officers Place One In Custody After Recovering Loaded Firearm in Dorchester

At about 11:30 PM on Saturday May 14, 2016, officers assigned to the Youth Violence Strike Force and District B-2 (Roxbury) made an onsite firearm arrest in the area of 16 Monadnock Street in Dorchester.  Officers were on patrol when they observed several males gathered in front of the address holding open containers of alcohol in their hands.  As the officers approached to speak with the group, one of the men, Ricky Pina, 19, of Dorchester, suddenly put down a bottle of beer and placed his arms down to cover his waistband area while turning away from the officers, leading them to believe he may be in possession of a weapon.  Officers stopped the suspect and performed a pat frisk which revealed a loaded 9mm Smith & Wesson handgun in the waistband area of his pants.  The suspect was placed in custody without incident and will appear in Roxbury District Court on charges of Unlawful Possession of a Firearm, Unlawful Possession of Ammunition and Carrying a Loaded Firearm.
