One Less Gun: Officers Place One in Custody After Recovering Loaded Firearm During Traffic Stop in Roxbury

At about 11:00 PM on Friday May 13, 2016, officers assigned to District B-2 (Roxbury) made an onsite firearm arrest in the area of Walnut Avenue and Walnut Park.  Officers were on routine patrol when they stopped a motor vehicle which had an equipment violation.  Officers spoke with the occupants of the vehicle including, David Coleman, 29, of New Bedford, who initially provided a false name and was behaving in a nervous manner.  The suspect eventually informed the officers that he was in possession of a firearm.  The officers removed the suspect from the vehicle and recovered a loaded .22 caliber Beretta Model 21A handgun from his pants pocket.  He was then placed in custody without incident.  The suspect has been arraigned in Roxbury District Court on charges of Unlawful Possession of a Firearm and Unlawful Possession of Ammunition.
