One Less Gun: Officers Recover Loaded Firearm After Stopping Suspect in Roxbury

At about 8:00 PM on Thursday May 26, 2016, officers assigned to District C-6 (South Boston) responded to a radio call for a person with a gun in the area of the McDonald’s restaurant located at 870 Massachusetts Avenue in Roxbury.  Officers received a detailed description of the suspect, later identified as Jonathan Duong, 20 of East Boston, and were told he was carrying an illegal firearm in his backpack.  Officers soon located the suspect walking near 980 Massachusetts Avenue and approached to speak with him.  Officers removed the suspect’s backpack and immediately felt a firearm inside of it which was later revealed to be a loaded 9mm Taurus Arms semi-automatic handgun.  The suspect was placed in custody without incident after it was determined he did not possess a license to carry a firearm.  The suspect will appear in Roxbury District Court on charges of Unlawful Possession of Firearm, Unlawful Possession of Ammunition and Carrying a Loaded Firearm.
