One Less Gun: Officers Recover Loaded Firearm After Making Drug Arrest in the Boston Common

At about 1:20 PM on Friday May 27, 2016, officers assigned to the Drug Control Unit of District A-1 (Downtown) recovered a loaded firearm after making a drug arrest in the area of Beacon and Joy Streets.  Officers were on directed patrol in the Boston Common in response to numerous recent complaints regarding the sale of illegal drugs when they observed Issa Hamilton, 21, of Boston, conducting a drug transaction with a second individual.  This suspect was known to the officers from previous interactions and drug distribution charges.  After confirming that a transaction had taken place, the suspect was placed in custody without incident.  Officers recovered several small bags of marijuana packaged for sale and $160.00 U.S. Currency from the suspect.  Upon searching a backpack that the suspect had been carrying, the officers recovered a loaded Taurus PT-138 .380 caliber firearm which had been hidden in a black and white bandana.  The suspect will appear in Boston Municipal Court on charges of Unlawful Possession of a Firearm, Unlawful Possession of Ammunition, Distribution of Class D Drugs and Possession with Intent to Distribute Class D Drugs.  The second individual was issued a Civil Citation for Possession of Class D Drugs and released from the scene.
