One Less Gun: BPD Officers Apprehend Gun-toting Suspect in the South End

At about 10:53 PM on Friday, May 6, 2016, members of the Youth Violence Strike Force responded to a call for a loaded magazine clip found in the area of W. Brookline & Aquadilla Streets. On arrival, officers recovered the magazine clip and spoke to Longwood Security officers who stated they observed three individuals acting suspiciously in the area where the clip was found. According to the security officers, they heard the individuals making loud noises and threats to shoot somebody prior to entering a building in the area of 100 W. Dedham Street. In light of the aforementioned information, officers set up surveillance in hopes of locating the individuals responsible for the threats. In short time, officers observed two individuals who matched the description of the males heard making the earlier threats. When officers approached, one of the individuals refused to stop. Officers further noted that the individual had his hands in his jacket pockets. Given this observation, officers asked the individual to slowly remove his hands from his pockets. When officers asked the suspect if he was in possession of any weapons, officers observed the suspect stiffen up. When officers attempted to conduct a pat frisk of the suspect, the suspect pulled away and attempted to flee the area. After a brief altercation, officers recovered a silver-colored firearm (see photo) in the suspect’s waist area.  Officers arrested Juan Medina, 38, of Boston and charged him with the Unlawful Possession of a Firearm, Unlawful Possession of Ammunition and Resisting Arrest. Additionally, officers arrested the 2nd individual, Wilfredo Morales, 38, of Boston, and charged him with Possession with Intent to Distribute a Class B Drug (Cocaine).
