At about 1:00 AM on Monday, June 20, 2016, officers from District B-2 (Roxbury) responded to a radio call for a loud party on Keegan Street.

Upon arrival, officers observed a group of approximately 12 males in front of 43-47 Keegan Street, the majority of whom were known to officers as members of an area street gang. As officers approached, the group walked away to a nearby park. Officers observed plastic cups, open bottles of liquor, and tobacco products scattered about the properties. As officers canvassed the area with their flashlights, one observed a loaded silver Smith & Wesson .22 caliber revolver under the front staircase of a residence. Officers recovered the firearm, processed it, and found that it had been reported stolen to the Grand Rapids Police Department.

Said Police Commissioner William Evans, “My officers are making every effort to take illegal firearms off the streets. Kids need to do their part and stop carrying guns and bringing them to parties. We want to make this a safe summer for everyone in our neighborhoods.”
