At about 3:24 PM on Monday, June 27, 2016, officers assigned to the Youth Violence Strike Force arrested two suspects in connection to a shots fired incident in the area of Hancock Street and Upham Avenue in District C-11 (Dorchester).
The officers were on directed patrol when they heard three gunshots and then observed a silver SUV driving down Upham Avenue at a high rate of speed. The officers activated their lights and sirens as they attempted to stop the vehicle after it failed to stop at a stop sign, but the operator continued to pick up speed while attempting to flee the area. The officers continued to follow the vehicle until it crashed into a van in the area of 66 Glendale Street at which time it was rendered inoperable. As the officers approached the car, the driver, Mario Marques, 18, of Dorchester, and the passenger, Alijah Rosa, 18, of Dorchester, both jumped out of the vehicle and immediately began to run. The officers could clearly see that Rosa was holding a black revolver in his hand. The officers gave chase and were eventually able to place both suspects in custody after jumping several walls and fences while cutting through multiple backyards. The officers later recovered a loaded Interarms Rossi .38 Special revolver which Rosa dropped on the ground as the officers were chasing him. The firearm was loaded with two live rounds of ammunition and three spent shell casings. It was later revealed that the SUV the suspects were travelling in had been reported stolen out of Quincy about two hours before this incident took place.
Both suspects will appear in Dorchester District Court. Mario Marques was issued several Motor Vehicle Citations and will be charged with Receiving a Stolen Motor Vehicle and Operating a Motor Vehicle After Revocation or Suspension. Alijah Rosa will be charged with Unlawful Possession of a Firearm, Unlawful Possession of Ammunition, Discharging a Firearm within 500 Feet of a Dwelling and Receiving a Stolen Motor Vehicle.
