One Less Gun: Officers Arrest 17-Year-Old Carrying Loaded Firearm in South Boston

At about 6:10 PM on Monday, July 18, 2016, members of the Youth Violence Strike Force made an onsite arrest for firearm related charges in the area of 90 Orton Marotta Way in District C-6 (South Boston).

While on patrol, officers observed a group of young males in the area of the D Street Housing Development. As officers approached in their vehicle, one of the males suddenly broke away and began walking in the opposite direction. Officers turned their vehicle around and attempted to catch up with the male who had noticeably hurried his pace. When officers engaged the male in conversation they observed he was visibly trembling and turning his body away from officers. Given his actions, officers attempted to conduct a pat frisk for their safety, however, the male then began to struggle violently, even attempting to crawl under a bush to escape. During the struggle, officers felt a hard object tucked into the male’s pants. Once the male was placed into handcuffs, officers recovered a loaded black Ruger LCP firearm from the male’s pants.

Officers arrested the 17-year-old juvenile male from South Boston and charged him with Delinquent to wit; Unlawful Possession of a Firearm, Unlawful Possession of Ammunition, and Unlawfully Carrying a Loaded Firearm.
