Media Availability/Photo Opportunity: BPD To Unveil Major Addition to the Department's Patrol Force
WHO: Mayor Martin Walsh, Commissioner William Evans, Dick Parry of the Boston Police Foundation, representatives from HP Hood Co., community policing officers, command staff members and area youth.
WHAT: Prior to tomorrow night’s National Night Out Celebration, the Boston Police Department will unveil a significant addition to the department’s patrol force which will profoundly and positively impact the BPD’s highly successful ‘Operation Hoodsie Cup’ community policing initiative. Created in 2010, ‘Operation Hoodsie Cup’ has established itself as one of the most innovative and effective community policing programs in the country. So much so, ‘Operation Hoodsie Cup’ was prominently mentioned and drew rave praise in President Barack Obama’s Task Force on 21st Century Policing Report. Police departments around the country, like the St. Louis Police Department which recently unveiled their own ice cream truck, are doing their best to emulate and follow Boston’s lead. Over the last six years, our officers have gladly handed out approximately 120,000 free Hoodsie Cups.
