One Less Gun: At about 5:56 AM on Wednesday August 17, 2016, officers assigned to Area B-3 (Mattapan) made an onsite firearm arrest in the area of 40 School Street in Dorchester. Officers were called to the area to investigate an unconscious male who had what appeared to be a gun next to him.  On arrival the officers entered the playground area of the Oliver Wendell Holmes Schoolyard and observed a male lying on his back who appeared to be sleeping.  As the officers approached the sleeping male, they could see what they recognized as a firearm tucked under his arm. Fearing for their safety, the officers quickly removed the gun from under the suspect's arm area and woke him up.  The suspect became startled and attempted to get up and struggled briefly with the officers.  Officers quickly gained control of the suspect and secured him with handcuffs for safety.  A backpack was also recovered from the suspect that contained two digital scales and a black ski-mask.  The gun taken from the suspect was loaded with several rounds of ammunition.  The suspect, Rodney Cooper, 18 of Dorchester, was unable to produce a license to carry and was subsequently arrested and charged with Unlawful Possession of a Firearm, Unlawful Possession of Ammunition, Carrying a Loaded Firearm in Public, Trespassing and Firearm on School Property.  Arraignment was set for Dorchester Court.

The Boston Police Department continues its commitment to remove guns from the neighborhoods.  As of today, the officers of the BPD have taken 462 guns off the streets.
