One Less Gun: Officers Recover Loaded Firearm, Drugs After Foot Pursuit in Dorchester

At about 10:45 PM on Friday August 19, 2016, officers assigned to the City Wide Drug Control Unit made and onsite firearm arrest as part of an active investigation in the area of 99 Armandine Street in Dorchester.   The officers were aware that the target of their investigation, Akeem Mapp, 27, of Roxbury, was wanted on two outstanding warrants and may be in possession of an illegal firearm.  The officers located the suspect walking through Roberts Playground towards Dorchester High School and approached to speak with him at which time a foot pursuit ensued.  The officers were able to catch the suspect and place him in custody while recovering a loaded .45 caliber Ruger handgun which he had discarded as he fled.  The officers later recovered fifteen small bags of marijuana packaged for sale from the suspect.  The suspect will appear in Dorchester District Court on charges of Unlawful Possession of a Firearm, Unlawful Possession of Ammunition, Carrying a Loaded Firearm and Possession with Intent to Distribute Class D Drugs.
