Keeping Boston Safe: Within a four period, officers were able to arrest three suspects and recover two loaded firearms in two separate incidents. The facts and circumstances are detailed below:
INCIDENT #1: At about 3:00 PM on Thursday, August 4, 2016, officers assigned to the Youth Violence Strike Force made an onsite firearm arrest after a foot chase in the area of 12 Powellton Road in Dorchester. The officers were attempting to stop a motor vehicle for a traffic infraction when the passenger of the vehicle, later identified as Tyrre Herring, 19, of Dorchester, jumped out of the car as it was coming to a stop. As suspect was exiting the vehicle, officers promptly observed his right hand clutching a firearm (see photo) that was sticking out of the waistband of his pants. With the protection and safety of all in the immediate area on their minds, officers immediately began to chase the suspect through several backyards and over fences until they were able to apprehend him behind 5 Strathcona Street. The officers later recovered a loaded .40 caliber Smith & Wesson SD40 VE handgun and other material evidence which the suspect had discarded during the foot chase. The suspect will appear in Dorchester District Court on charges of Unlawful Possession of a Firearm, Unlawful Possession of Ammunition and Trespassing.

The officers recovered a loaded .38 caliber Bulldog revolver after placing Deondre Blanding, 19, of Roslindale, and Walter Coleman, 19, of Dorchester, in custody on drug-related charges. The firearm has since been turned over to the Ballistics Unit for processing and analysis. Both suspects will appear in Roxbury District Court on charges of Possession with Intent to Distribute Class B Drugs and Trespassing.
