One Less Gun: YVSF Officers Make NYE Safer in Dorchester, Recover Illegal Firearm

At about 10:20 PM on Saturday, December 31, 2016, members of the Youth Violence Strike Force on-sited an arrest for firearm related charges in the area of Topliff and Holiday Streets in District C-11 (Dorchester).

Due to information gleaned from a gang investigation, officers became aware that three males known to them may be in possession of a firearm. The officers also knew that these males were not of lawful age to carry a firearm. Officers were able to locate the males and set up surveillance. When officers finally approached, one of the males turned from officers as if concealing an item on his person. Due to the information gathered earlier in the investigation, officers believed the subject to have a firearm. Officers conducted a pat frisk for their safety and did, in fact, recover a loaded 9mm Highpoint Lugar Model c9 with an obliterated serial number that the suspect had tucked under his left armpit. Officers arrested 20-year-old Cartwright J. Jones of Weymouth and charged him with Unlawful Possession of a Firearm, Unlawful Possession of Ammunition, Possession of a Firearm with Obliterated Serial Number, and Unlawfully Carrying a Loaded Firearm.
