One Less Gun: Two Arrested and Two Firearms Recovered in Two Separate Incidents in Mattapan

INCIDENT #1: At about 10:45 AM on Thursday, January 12, 2017, officers from District B-3 (Mattapan) were flagged down for a robbery in progress in the area of Blue Hill Avenue and River Street.

While on patrol in Mattapan Square, an officer was approached by an unknown witness who stated a woman had been robbed of her purse. The witness pointed to the suspect who was seen fleeing on foot toward the Mattapan MBTA Station. A responding K-9 officer observed the suspect concealing something on his right side with a long coat. The officer gave lawful orders for the suspect to show his hands or the officer would release his K-9. The suspect dropped his coat which had been concealing a woman’s purse and immediately complied with the officer. The officer placed the suspect in custody and recovered the victim’s property. During a search of the suspect, the officer also recovered “Derringer” style handgun and ammunition from the suspect. Officers arrested 46-year-old Milton Sessoms of Hyde Park and charged him with Armed Robbery, Assault by Means of a Dangerous Weapon, Unlawful Possession of a Firearm, Unlawful Possession of Ammunition, Threats to Commit a Crime, and Armed Career Criminal (Level 2).

INCIDENT #2: At about 2:35 PM on Thursday, January 12, 2017, members of the Youth Violence Strike Force conducted an investigation in the area of Darlington Street in District B-3 (Mattapan) after recent incidents of shots fired.

After receiving information that a particular suspect, 23-year-old female Asuasha Griffith of Malden, was in possession of a firearm, officers stopped her and three males sitting in a vehicle in the above area. Due to Griffith’s nervous statements and actions, along with the information officers had obtained earlier, officers requested Griffith exit the vehicle for their safety. Officers conducted a pat frisk of Griffith and the immediate area of the vehicle within her reach and recovered a loaded Smith & Wesson 38 Special CTG revolver, a survival knife, and a plastic bag of what appeared to be marijuana from a toiletry bag on the floor near her seat.

Officers arrested Griffith and charged her with Unlawful Possession of a Firearm, Unlawful Possession of Ammunition, and Unlawfully Carrying a Loaded Firearm.
