At about 6:45 PM on Saturday January 21, 2017, officers assigned to the Youth Violence Strike Force made an onsite firearm arrest in the area of 155 Talbot Street in Dorchester.  The officers responded to a call for a person with a gun near 214 Harvard Street which was immediately followed by a separate call for a person shot in the area 56 Nightingale Street which resulted in a death investigation.  While canvassing the area for any possible witnesses or additional victims, the officers observed a group of three males walking on Bernard Street and approached to speak with them.  When they asked the group if they had seen or heard anything, one of the males, later identified as a 17 year old male from Dorchester, immediately took off running while clutching at the front waist band area of his pants.  Believing that the he was armed with a weapon, the officers pursued the juvenile suspect.  While running behind him, they observed the suspect take a .380 caliber Cobra handgun from his waist which he then held in his hand as he continued running.  The officers gave numerous commands for the suspect to drop the gun, and as they closed in on him, the suspect finally discarded the weapon and was then placed in custody without further incident.  The two other individuals who had been walking with the suspect were identified, interviewed and released.  It was not immediately clear if the juvenile suspect or the recovered firearm had any connection to the two previous calls.  The suspect will appear in Dorchester Juvenile Court on charges of Delinquent to Wit:  Unlawful Possession of a Firearm, Unlawful Possession of Ammunition and Carrying a Loaded Firearm.
