One Less Gun: Officers Arrest Juvenile for Firearm Related Charges after Footchase

At about 7:40 PM on Thursday, January 26, 2017, members of the Youth Violence Strike Force made a firearm related arrest in the area of 26 Belden Street in District B-2 (Roxbury).

YVSF officers on patrol were informed by a BPD School Unit officer that he had just observed a 17-year-old male and an 18-year-old male known to police displaying characteristics of armed gunmen. Officers in the area located the two suspects amidst a small group of males. As officers approached to speak with the suspects, the 17-year-old took off on foot. Officers pursued and were eventually able to stop him in a backyard near 26 Belden Street. Officers canvassed the area for any discarded contraband and located a loaded silver and black Taurus 9mm Model 709 firearm in the lot adjacent to the yard where the suspect was apprehended.

Officers arrested the 17-year-old juvenile from Dorchester and charged him with Trespassing, Unlawful Possession of a Firearm, Unlawful Possession of Ammunition, and Unlawfully Carrying a Loaded Firearm.

The 18-year-old male was identified and released.
