At about 7:15 PM on Friday, October 27, 2017, members of the Youth Violence Strike Force made an on-site arrest of a male illegally carrying a firearm in the area of 95 Topliff Street in District C-11 (Dorchester).

As the result of an ongoing investigation, officers became aware that a male known to police, 20-year-old Rumel Santana of Dorchester, may be in possession of a firearm. While on patrol, officers observed Santana walking on Topliff Street and attempted to conduct an inquiry. When officers approached, Santana immediately attempted to flee, but officers were able to stop him and conduct a pat frisk. During the frisk, Santana began to struggle with the officers, at which time the officers observed a firearm slide from his waistband down his pant leg. Officers were quickly and safely able to recover the unloaded .25 caliber Auto Sterling Arms firearm from Santana and place him under arrest. Santana is charged with Unlawful Possession of a Firearm.
