Media Availability/Photo Opportunity: Officers to Hand Out Bike Light Kits on Southwest Corridor in Jamaica Plain

WHO: BPD District E-13 (Jamaica Plain) officers and City Wide Bicycle Unit officers

WHAT: Over the last several years, the BPD has worked diligently to support neighborhood initiatives focused on the safety of pedestrians and bicyclists on our roadways. The officers at Boston Police District E-13 have developed several partnerships with local businesses in J.P. who have supported “Vision Zero” and our mission to reduce fatal and serious traffic crashes to zero. One of these businesses generously donated bike light kits consisting of a headlight and taillight that can be assembled and attached to a bicycle without tools in less than 30 seconds.

Tonight, officers will be set up on the Southwest Corridor to pull over cyclists, not to issue a citation, but to provide them with a donated bike light kit and educate them on the safety benefits of riding with a white headlight and red taillight.

WHEN: Friday, November 3, 2017 at 5:30 PM.

WHERE: Southwest Corridor at Centre Street and Lamartine Street, Jamaica Plain.
