One Less Gun: Two Loaded Firearms Recovered and Arrest Made in Dorchester After Known Suspect Flees Attempted Traffic Stop in Roxbury

At about 2:24 AM on Wednesday February 15, 2017, officers assigned to District D-4 (South End) in a collaborative effort with officers assigned to Districts B-2 (Roxbury) and B-3 (Mattapan) made an onsite arrest and recovered two loaded firearms in the area of Columbia Road and Dorchester Avenue in Dorchester.  While on routine patrol in the area of 85 Southampton Street in Roxbury, officers observed Gullit Gomes, 25, of Braintree, who was known to the officers from previous incidents, enter a motor vehicle and drive towards the Massachusetts Avenue Connector.  When the officers observed the vehicle commit a traffic infraction, they activated their lights and sirens in an attempt to perform a traffic stop at which time, the car sped away. 

Additional responding units were able to locate the suspect a short time later walking near Columbia Road and Dorchester Avenue where he was placed in custody without incident.  About twenty minutes later, officers were able to locate the suspect vehicle on Cottrell Street and perform a standard motor vehicle inventory search which led to the recovery of a loaded Ruger P95 handgun and a loaded Smith & Wesson GTG revolver.  The suspect will appear in Roxbury District Court on charges of Unlawful Possession of a Firearm, Unlawful Possession of Ammunition in addition to numerous motor vehicle infractions including Operating a Motor Vehicle After Revocation or Suspension, Refusal to Submit to a Police Officer and Driving to Endanger.
