ONE LESS GUN: BPD Officers Arrest Two, Recover Two Firearms in Two Separate Incidents Yesterday

Firearm from Incident #1

INCIDENT #1: At about 3:00 PM on Friday, February 24, 2017, members of the Youth Violence Strike Force made an on-site arrest for firearm related charges in the area of 52 Ellington Street in District B-3 (Mattapan). While on patrol, officers observed a young male walking on the street, making “security checks” of a possible weapon in his right front pocket while looking up and down the street in a hypervigilant manner. Officers believed the male may be carrying a firearm and attempted to speak with him. When officers approached, the male fled on foot with officers in pursuit. While he was running, officers observed the male take a firearm out of his pants and throw it into some bushes. After a brief physical struggle, the officers were able to apprehend the male a short distance away. Officers recovered a loaded black Smith & Wesson Bodyguard .380 firearm (see photo above) from the bushes. Officers arrested the 17-year-old juvenile male from Charlestown and charged him with Delinquent to wit: Unlawful Possession of a Firearm, Unlawful Possession of Ammunition, and Unlawfully Carrying a Loaded Firearm.

Firearm from Incident #2

INCIDENT #2: At about 5:40 PM on Friday, February 24, 2017, members of the District D-4 (South End) Neighborhood Drug Control Unit officers were monitoring the area of Lenox Street Housing Development for drug activity. While patrolling, officers observed a possible drug transaction take place between a male on foot, later identified as 44-year-old Ronald Badgett of Roxbury, and a male inside a vehicle. When officers stopped Badgett, he continually reached inside his pockets and ignored officers’ orders to keep his hands where they could see them. For fear of a weapon, officers attempted to pat frisk Badgett, and after a brief struggle, recovered a loaded Beretta Px4 Storm 9mm semi-automatic firearm (see photo above) reported stolen out of Hampton, NH in 2010 from his waistband. Officers arrested Badgett and charged him with Unlawful Possession of a Firearm, Unlawful Possession of Ammunition, Unlawful Possession of a Large Capacity Firearm, Unlawful Possession of a Large Capacity Feeding Device, Unlawfully Carrying a Loaded Firearm, and Receiving Stolen Property.
