At about 5:16 am on Friday, March 10, 2017, officers from District C-11 (Dorchester) responded to a call for a breaking and entering in progress in the area of 231 Washington Street in Dorchester. According to the caller, he was at work viewing his in-home security cameras when he observed an individual or individuals trying to break into his home. On arrival, officers observed a black male sitting inside a white motor vehicle with its engine idling and a second black male attempting to run away from the scene. In short time, officers were able to subdue and apprehend both suspects. A search of the white motor vehicle enabled officers to see and take possession of a firearm, herein referred to as Gun #1 (see photo), described as a Amadeo Rossi S.A. M68 .38 SPL, found lying on the floor of the front passenger seat. When asked to produce a license to carry a firearm, the operator of the vehicle was unable to do so.
Officers arrested Dedrick Lindsey, 33, of Boston and charged him with the Unlawful Possession of a Firearm (2nd Offense), Unlawful Possession of Ammunition, Possession of a Firearm with Defaced Serial Number, Attempt to Commit a Crime (Breaking and Entering at Night) and Trespassing.
After a lengthy foot chase, officers were able to catch up to and apprehend the second suspect attempting to run away from the scene when officers arrived. While running behind the suspect, officers observed the suspect discard several objects with one of the objects appearing to be a firearm. After the suspect was taken into custody, officers retraced the steps taken by the suspect during his attempt to evade capture. While retracing the suspect’s flight path, officers discovered and recovered a black semi-automatic Smith and Wesson firearm, herein referred to as Gun #2 (see photo), a screwdriver and a pair of white rubber gloves.
Officers arrested Leon Spear, 27, of Boston and charged him with Unlawful Possession of a Firearm (2nd Offense), Unlawful Possession of Ammunition, Carrying a Loaded Firearm on a Public Way, Attempt to Commit a Crime (Breaking and Entering at Night) and Possession of Burglarious Tools (Screwdriver).
