One Less Gun: Officers Recover Loaded Firearm After Violent Struggle with Combative Suspect in Roxbury

At about 8:15 AM on Wednesday, March 22, 2017, officers assigned to District B-2 (Roxbury) made an onsite arrest and recovered a loaded firearm after responding to a call for a robbery in the area of 23 Juniper Street in Roxbury. The officers were on scene speaking to Boima Howell, 38, of Roxbury, regarding his involvement in a larceny of a Louis Vuitton purse when he suddenly punched an officer in the face and attempted to flee at which time a violent struggle ensued. It took four officers to finally gain control of the suspect and place him in custody with three of those officers sustaining minor injuries. The officers later recovered a loaded .40 caliber Glock 23 handgun (SEE PHOTO) from the suspect’s pants pocket along with 18 bags of crack cocaine. The suspect has since been arraigned in Roxbury District Court on multiple charges including Unlawful Possession of a Firearm (Subsequent Offense), Unlawful Possession of Ammunition, Assault and Battery on a Police Officer with Injuries, Resisting Arrest, Larceny from the Person and Possession with Intent to Distribute Class B Drugs.
