BPD in the Community: Charity Basketball Game Between the Boston Police Department and the Boston Fire Department Raises Thousands for Cancer Research at Catholic Memorial in West Roxbury

Earlier today, on Saturday, March 25, 2017, hundreds of community members turned out to cheer on teams from the Boston Police Department and the Boston Fire Department as they took to the hardwood for the 2nd annual "Battle of the Badges" charity basketball game to benefit “A Shot For Life, Inc.” which sponsors brain cancer research at Massachusetts General Hospital.

The special guest for the day, and honorary Team Captain for the BPD, was four-year-old Declan Higgins of Medfield who is currently battling brain cancer. Declan was all smiles after getting a personal police motorcycle escort to the event while being cheered on by countless fans who lined the streets with signs as he approached the gym at Catholic Memorial in West Roxbury. Declan and his family stopped to take a closer look at the motorcycles and say thanks to the officers before heading in to get the game going with the opening ceremonial tip off. Declan was on the bench of the boys in blue, cheering them on all the way to their hard fought victory, 60-53, over the Boston Fire Department.

Our thanks to everyone who came out today, all of the generous sponsors of this event, with special thanks to all of our officers and our first responder brothers from the Boston Fire Department who competed in support of a great cause.
