Daily Dose of Great Police Work: Drug Investigation in Mattapan Leads to Seizure of Cocaine, Heroin, Pills, and Firearm

While conducting surveillance in an ongoing drug investigation near Kingbird Road on Monday, March 27, 2017, members of the District B-3 (Mattapan) Neighborhood Drug Control Unit observed a pickup truck from Martha’s Vineyard arrive and park in the area. A short time later, a red vehicle pulled up behind truck. Officers observed the male passenger exit the pickup truck and walk to the red vehicle, entering the passenger side. The passenger remained inside the red vehicle for about 10 minutes, then exited and re-entered the truck. The pickup truck then drove from the area.

Believing a drug transaction just occurred, officers maintained surveillance of both vehicles. Officers conducted a traffic stop of the truck at Blue Hill Ave and Johnston Road. As a result, the officers recovered 186 paper folds of heroin (over 30 grams), one plastic bag of cocaine (approximately 14 grams), nine Xanax pills, and two Trazadone pills. The occupants, 39-year-0ld Peter Estrella and 35-year-old Adam Robinson, both of Vineyard Haven, were placed under arrest for Trafficking Class A Drugs (Heroin), Possession with Intent to Distribute Class B (Cocaine), Class C, and Class E Drugs, and Conspiracy to Violate the Drug Laws.

Officers maintained surveillance of the red vehicle and observed the operator, later identified as 41-year-old Bernard Medero of Everett, entering a residence on Osprey Way. A short time later Medero exited the residence, entered his vehicle and drove away from the area. Officers followed Mederos to Canterbury and Walk Hill Streets, where he was taken into custody for Distribution of Class A and Class B Drugs. Upon further investigation, officers learned of more drugs inside the residence on Osprey Way. Officers applied for, received, and executed a search warrant for the residence, and recovered the following:

  • $6,911 in US currency,
  • One Astra .25 Caliber Pistol with magazine and 3 rounds of ammunition
  • 72 grams of Cocaine
  • 9 grams of Heroin
  • 1.5 pounds of Marijuana
  • 40 Clonazapam pills
  • Scales, packaging, and grinders

Medero was additionally charged with Trafficking Class B Drugs (Cocaine), Possession with Intent Class A Drugs (Heroin), Possession with Intent to Distribute Class C Drugs, Possession with Intent to Distribute Class D Drugs, Unlawful Possession of a Firearm, and Unlawful Possession of Ammunition.
