Daily Dose of Great Police Work: Community Effort from Boston Police Officer and Neighbors Allows Residents to Escape House Fire Safely

At about 5:45 PM on Friday, March 3, 2017, an officer from District C-11 (Dorchester) observed an active fire in the area of 27 Myrtlebank Avenue.

While on patrol on Gallivan Boulevard, the officer observed a large amount of smoke billowing from the Myrtlebank Avenue area. The officer advised the 911 dispatcher of the fire and approached to investigate. The officer observed a large fire on a second-floor porch in the rear of the two-story house. The officer spoke with the tenant of the first floor who reported he was the only one in his apartment but that there may be occupants of the second-floor unit inside. Without regard for his own safety, the officer rushed to the second floor where he observed neighbors assisting the owners of the house out of the unit. The officer proceeded with one of the neighbors to the attic where they located a 46-year-old male and a 21-year-old male who were unaware of the fire. The officer and neighbors were able to escort all parties out safely.
