One Less Gun: Officers Recover Two Firearms in Two Separate Incidents in Dorchester

INCIDENT #1: At about 8:00 PM on Wednesday, April 12, 2017, officers from District C-11 made an arrest in a firearm-related incident in the area of 461 Columbia Road. While on patrol, officers observed muzzle flashes and heard numerous gunshots fired near the sidewalk outside 463 Columbia Road. Officers observed three unknown males flee on foot toward the yard of 458 Columbia, while two other males fled on foot on Columbia toward Bird Street. The officers broadcast the description and direction of flight of the three males, while giving chase to the latter individuals toward Hancock and Bird Streets. With the assistance of additional units, officers stopped the pair and observed that one was suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. The 20-year-old male victim was evaluated and transported to Boston Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries, while the second was pat-frisked for officer safety. During the frisk, officers seized a loaded black .22 caliber revolver from the male, identified as 19-year-old Leonardo Gutierrez of Dorchester. Gutierrez was arrested and charged with Unlawful Possession of a Firearm, Unlawful Possession of Ammunition, and Unlawfully Carrying a Loaded Firearm.

INCIDENT #2: At about 10:40 PM on Wednesday, April 12, 2017, officers from District C-11 received information that an individual may be carrying a firearm in the area of Boston Bowl at 820 Morrissey Boulevard. Officers at that location observed the individual in question enter the front passenger’s seat of a vehicle with a female operator and another male passenger. The officers made a stop of this vehicle on Freeport Street. When the officers approached the car, he observed the male in the front passenger’s seat to be manipulating an object near the floorboard. After ignoring several lawful commands to show his hands, the passenger finally complied. For officer safety, the officers ordered all parties out of the vehicle and conducted a pat frisk of the three individuals and the passenger area of the vehicle. As a result, officers recovered a loaded black CAI P-64 9mm semi-automatic handgun from under the front passenger’s seat, where officers previously observed the suspect manipulating an object. Officers arrested 23-year-old Dequan D. Martin of Stoughton and charged him with Unlawful Possession of a Firearm, Unlawful Possession of Ammunition, and Unlawfully Carrying a Loaded Firearm. The operator and second passenger were identified and released.
