At about 4:35 PM on Saturday, April 1, 2017, officers from District C-11 (Dorchester) made three arrests for motor vehicle and firearm related offenses in the area of 15 Neponset Avenue.

While on patrol in the area of Hancock Street, an officer observed a motor vehicle without an inspection sticker occupied by three males. The officer attempted to conduct a stop, however, it quickly became clear that the operator had no intention of stopping the vehicle. The suspect vehicle sped away on Neponset Ave, and due to the inclement weather conditions, the officer discontinued his pursuit immediately. However, moments later, as the officer traveled farther down Neponset, the officer observed a cloud of dust and debris. As the officer approached, he observed that the suspect vehicle had crashed into another car, and the operator, as well as his two passengers, were fleeing the scene on foot through private backyards and property. The officer broadcast the suspect descriptions over the radio and began to pursue the suspects on foot.

After a lengthy foot chase, the officer apprehended the operator of the vehicle, identified as 21-year-old Maurice Anthony Nunez of Roxbury, and placed him under arrest. Nunez was charged with several motor vehicle infractions, including Operating with a Suspended Driver’s License and Leaving the Scene of an Accident causing Personal Injury. He was also charged with Trespassing and Disorderly Person.

One of the passengers, identified as 18-year-old Daniel Mejia of Chelsea, was stopped a few blocks away by a MA State Trooper. As a result of this stop, a loaded Glock 26 firearm was recovered from the waistband of Mejia. Additionally, officers recovered 12 plastic bags of a substance believed to be crack cocaine from Mejia. Mejia was charged with firearm-related charges, Possession with Intent to Distribute Class B Drugs, Trespassing, and Disorderly Person.

The second passenger in the vehicle was apprehended and arrested a short time later and identified as 19-year-old Elmer G. Funes of Roxbury. Funes was charged with Trespassing and Disorderly Person.
