One Less Gun: BPD Officers Place Suspect in Custody and Recover Loaded Firearm After Traffic Stop Leads to Foot Pursuit in Dorchester

At about 6:18 PM on Thursday April 27, 2017, officers assigned to the Youth Violence Strike Force placed a suspect in custody on firearm and drug related charges after a lengthy foot pursuit in Dorchester.  The officers were on routine patrol when they stopped a motor vehicle for a traffic infraction in the area of Whittemore Terrace.  As the officers were approaching the vehicle, the operator, later identified as Reynold Elie, 25, of Stoughton, quickly exited the vehicle and immediately took off running.  The officers pursued the suspect through multiple backyards while jumping over several fences and walls before finally placing him in custody after a violent struggle in the rear of 14 Trull Street.  The officers then recovered a loaded .22 caliber Sig Sauer handgun from inside the suspect's vehicle along with a small amount of heroin.  The suspect will appear in Dorchester District Court on charges of Unlawful Possession of a Firearm (2nd Offense), Unlawful Possession of Ammunition, Armed Career Criminal (Level 3), Possession of Class A Drugs and Unlicensed Operation of a Motor Vehicle.
