One Less Gun: Traffic Stop Enables BPD Officers to Arrest Two on Gun Related Charges in Dorchester

At about 3:43 pm on Tuesday, June 20, 2017, members of the Youth Violence Strike Force were in the area of 1800 Dorchester Ave when they observed a black motor vehicle operating erratically. Specifically, officers observed the vehicle make several illegal turns without properly signaling the aforementioned turns. In light of the observed infractions, officers stopped the car. Upon stopping the car, offices quickly recognized two of the occupants from previous interactions. Fearing the presence of weapons, officers instructed all occupants to exit the car. As the rear occupant was exiting the vehicle, officers observed a firearm (see photo) on the floor near his feet. Officers promptly seized the firearm and took the individual into custody. Officers arrested Calvin Cantave, 20 of Boston and charged him with the Unlawful Possession of a Firearm, Unlawful Possession of Ammunition and Carrying a Loaded Firearm. Officers also arrested a 17-year-old male and charged him with the Unlawful Possession of a Firearm, Unlawful Possession of Ammunition and Carrying a Loaded Firearm. The loaded firearm, which was found to be a black semi-automatic Glock Model 26, was taken into evidence.
