Suspect in Custody After Motor Vehicle Investigation Leads to the Recovery of Loaded Firearm Inside Vehicle During Search

At about 1:00 PM on Saturday, June 3, 2017, officers assigned to the Boston Police Fugitive Unit arrested Eumaani Springer, 22, of Dorchester, on firearm related charges. The arrest came as a result of an active and ongoing investigation in relation to a motor vehicle accident that occurred at about 8:35 PM on Monday, May 29, 2017, in the area of 571 Tremont Street in the South End. During that incident, a pedestrian was struck and killed by a motor vehicle which was being operated by Springer at the time. A lawful search of the vehicle led to the recovery of a loaded 9mm Jimenez Arms handgun. An arrest warrant was issued after investigators confirmed that the suspect did not possess a license to carry a firearm. The suspect has since been arraigned in Dorchester District Court on charges of Unlawful Possession of a Firearm, Unlawful Possession of Ammunition, Carrying a Loaded Firearm and Armed Career Criminal. The investigation into the motor vehicle accident remains active at this time.
